A and B: Neurokinin 1 receptor (NK1R) immunoreactivity is also present in hepatic stellate cells [HSCs; costained with glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP)] but not hepatocytes [costained with hepatocyte nuclear factor 4α (HNF4α)] from wild-type and Mdr2^−/−(Abcb4^−/−) mice, but absent in both HSCs and hepatocytes from NK1R^−/−(Tacr1^−/−) mice and NK1R^−/−/Mdr2^−/− (Tacr1^−/−/Abcb4^−/−) mice. Enlarged areas (10× enlargement for hepatocytes and 7× enlargement for HSCs) show an example of NK1R expression in hepatocytes and HSCs. Scale bars = 100 μm (A and B).
