Diagnostic Methods Inclusion Criteria
Medical history and clinical symptoms
  • a sudden onset of illness

  • acute epigastric pain with tenderness on palpation

Laboratory diagnosis
  • at least three-fold increase in lipase or amylase activity in serum levels above the upper limit of the reference range

  • increased of CRP concentration in the blood

Diagnostic imaging Computed tomography with contrast enhancement
  • patients with noncharacteristic abdominal pain for acute pancreatitis

  • patients with amylase activity or serum lipase less than three times the upper limit of the reference range

  • patients with uncertain diagnosis

Magnetic resonance without contrast (gadolinium)
  • patients with an allergy to contrast

  • patients with renal failure
