Mode of action of SrtA and its inactivation through its inhibitor; the surface proteins are covalently attached to the cell wall peptidoglycan with the aid of SrtA via the following sequential steps: (1) recognition, (2) thioesterification, and (3) transpeptidation. Further, they are inhibited for display, resulting in failure of adhesion to specific organ tissues, invasion of host cells, or the evasion of host-immune responses (4).
