The front is the ‘clean’ side with no hem fringe and comes in contact with the leaf litter or vegetation (Fig. 1A). The back is the side that will face upwards when being dragged. By maintaining the distinction of each side of the drag cloth, the hems will remain intact longer and will reduce the risk of overlooking larvae lost inside the fringes of the hem.
