The common steps are represented by the trunk of the tree and the non-common, specific steps, by the branches of the tree. The left and right tree sides depict the specific branches of the male and female NDs, NDm and NDf, respectively. The red rings mark the branch-out points. Red, blue and green ellipses mark the stem-, trunk- and crown-associated NDs, respectively.
