The gene expression profile of the enlarged islets is similar to that of undifferentiated, proliferative cells. Expression levels of genes related to β‐cell differentiation, proliferation, dedifferentiation and genes encoding islet hormones. Messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) expression levels are presented as fold‐change relative to those of fa/+ rats at 8 weeks‐of‐age (n = 3).
