Chl a biomass in the intake, surge well, and WTP raw water. The concentrations measured at the intake valve represent the algal community that is pulled into the water treatment plant from Lake Erie. The surge well concentrations are most variable, likely owing to the retention of algal communities in the well. Concentrations are lowest in WTP raw water, as this water is posttreatment with low doses of the algaecide potassium permanganate and the addition of activated carbon.
