The sampling design for the soil and vegetation study. Soil cores were taken at 0 m, 1.5 m, 4.5 m and 7.5 m at each locally infectious zone (LIZ). There were three vegetation sampling zones, 0–3 m, 3–6 m and 6–9 m; aboveground biomass was taken from an 80 × 80 cm quadrat in each of these zones.
