FGF21 decreases total fluid intake without altering total calories consumed. (A) Average daily total calories consumed (food and fluids) during 3-bottle choice of water versus either 10% or 20% sucrose and/or 4% or 18% casein in 13-week old male wild-type (WT) mice receiving daily intraperitoneal (i.p.) injections of vehicle (4 days), followed by daily i.p. injections of FGF21 (1 mg/kg; 4 days), and then a washout period with no injections (3 days; n = 8/group).
