Various oncogenic signals contribute to metabolic perturbation in cancer cells. Simultaneous inactivation of RB protein (pRB) and p53 might optimize coupling of glycolytic and lipidogenic phenotypes, which is facilitated by NADPH production through the pentose phosphate pathway (PPP).
