Ripple rate during STW and control segments in different brain regions. The median ripple rate (circle centered by a point) and interquartile range (thick line) as well as the extent of the distribution excluding outliers (thin lines) and outliers (circles) are presented in each brain region. A strong increase in ripple rate during STW compared with control segments is observed in the angular gyrus, the posterior cingulate gyrus, the temporal pole and superior temporal gyrus, and in the mesiotemporal structures. In the occipital cortex, the ripple rate is overall high but does not show an increase during STW segments. Abbreviations: g, gyrus.
