Virulence assessment of F. novicida parent (A) and select Fn CipR (B,C) and StrepR strains (D,E) in the BALB/c mouse model of intranasal infection. Mice were inoculated via the intranasal route with 50 μL of varying doses of each strain. Mice were then monitored over the course of 21 days and survival curves plotted. Serial dilutions of bacterial suspensions were plated to enumerate CFUs in challenge doses. LD50 values and median time-to-death were calculated and are shown in Table 4.
