Genetic loss of CD38 impairs AMP/adenosine synthesis from NAD+ in the lungs. Lung homogenates (n = 4/group) from wild-type (WT) mice rapidly degrade NAD+ whereas minimal NAD+ degradation occurs in tissues from CD38KO (KO) mice (a). Tissues from WT mice synthesize both AMP (b) and adenosine (c) in greater amounts than tissues from KO mice.
