MyoD and Myf5 null alleles used in this study, with resulting gene dosages of MyoD, Myf5 and Mrf4. The Myf5m1 allele (Braun et al., 1992) also abrogates expression of the closely linked Mrf4 gene in the embryo (Yoon et al., 1997), whereas myotomal Mrf4 expression is not appreciably affected in Myf5loxP/loxP embryos (Kassar-Duchossoy et al., 2004).
