Schematic depiction of microbubble administration to enhance the echogenic signal of the blood pool in ultrasound imaging. Continuous infusion of microbubbles at a maintained low mechanical index facilitates visualization of blood flow. A temporary increase in mechanical index results in microbubble destruction, and the refilling of the vascular compartment can be recorded for quantification of replenishment kinetics.
