Abbreviations: rhBMP-2 indicates recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein–2; Freq., frequency.
Data are presented as frequency (ie, number/total), percentage, and mean fusion score. Stepwise analysis showed no effect of fusion level (L3-4 versus L5-6); thus fusion scores were compared for treatments of vitamin D diet and graft material using a χ2 test. No interactions were observed, yet there was a significant effect of graft (P < .001) where fusions with rhBMP showed improvement over those with allograft.
