Sodium butyrate reduced gene expression of inflammatory cytokines. Bovine macrophages were pretreated with different concentrations of sodium butyrate (0.25, 0.5, 1 mM) for 12 h, and then treated with 5 μg/ml LPS for 3 h. The gene expression of IL-1β, IL-6, COX-2, and iNOS were analyzed by qRT-PCR. The gene expression levels of IL-1β, IL-6, COX-2, and iNOS are normalized to β-actin. Values were shown as means ± SD (n = 3). nsp > 0.05 meant no significance, *p < 0.05, **p < 0.01, ***p < 0.001 compared to the LPS group.
