Variable Epidemiological diagnosis
Diabetes mellitus (DM) DM screening was being carried out using glucometers and a random blood sugar reading of >140 mg/dl
was confirmed by fasting blood sugar. A fasting venous blood sugar level of ≧≥126 mg/dl was considered
as DM. Fasting was defined as no caloric intake for at least 8 hours 21
Hypertension (HTN) Blood pressure was measured using sphygmomanometers in the right arm, sitting position. A blood
pressure of ≥140/90 mm of Hg with at least two measurements, five minutes apart was labelled as HTN 22.
Eligible for screening Persons aged >30 years who are not diagnosed to have DM/HTN previously or not screened within the
last one year in the PHC or community
