(a) Two optical probes are placed over the left and right hemisphere to acquire cortical CBF from DCS. 16 electrodes are placed on the scalp for quantitative EEG as well as ABR. Earbuds are inserted in both ears for ABR measurements, and an ultrasound probe is placed over the temporal window of the zygomatic arch to measure blood flow from the middle cerebral artery. After successful ECMO decannulation, one additional measurement post-ECMO treatment is performed. Bedside cognitive assessments using Glasgow Coma Scale are carried out daily.
