a Classical Grignard-type reaction uses carbonyls as starting materials which come from the oxidation of alcohols. Organometallic reagents, in this case, serve as carbanion equivalent. b Alcohol-surrogated Grignard-type reaction, reported in this article, directly uses alcohol as starting material with hydrazones as carbanion equivalent, which skips the process of oxidation and generates hydrogen gas and nitrogen gas as only byproducts.
