Rotenone enhances the NaIO₃-induced retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cytotoxicity. Cells were treated with rotenone (10 μM) 20 min prior to NaIO₃ (30 mM) stimulation. Cell viability was measured by Annexin V/PI staining (A) and mitochondrial H₂O₂ was determined by mitoPY1 staining (B). Data were mean ± SEM from three independent experiments. * p < 0.05, indicating the significant effects of NaIO₃. ^# p < 0.05, indicating the significant effect of rotenone to increase cell death under NaIO₃ stimulation.
