Mode of action of purified AtPME17. Measured optical densities after CaCl₂ precipitation of untreated lime pectin E81 or E81 treated with AtPME17, orange pectin methylesterase (PME) or Aspergillus aculeatus PME. Lime pectins with blockwise de‐methylesterification (P76) or with random de‐methylesterification (F76) and polygalacturonic acid (PGA) were used for comparison. Values are means ± SD (n = 3). Different letters indicate datasets significantly different according to analysis of variance followed by Tukey's test (p < .05)
