Different soil types spiked with 1.2 mL infectious blood (6.0 log₁₀ HAD₅₀/mL of ASFV “Armenia08”) and stored at room temperature (A). Beach sand and sterile sand were inoculated with 2 mL of infectious blood and also incubated at room temperature (B). Blood only samples served as controls in both experiments. ASFV genome copies are depicted in black and virus titers are shown in red. Experiments were completed in triplicates, and each open circle represents an individual replicate. Solid lines and error bars represent the mean and standard deviation. The dotted line is the limit of detection of the virus titration.
