The orientation of the sagittal cutting planes through the condyles (medial: magenta; lateral: cyan) is changed by the angles α and β. Ellipses are fitted to the articulating part of the cutting contours until the dispersion of the posterior foci of the ellipses converges to a minimum. The PFEA (green) is fitted to the posterior foci and the CEA (blue) to the centers of the final ellipses⁴⁵.
