ai AAV5-hSyn-hM3Dq was injected into the right C5-C8 DRGs. Four weeks later, the DRGs were isolated and immunostained for mCherry (a, d, g, red) and calcitonin gene related peptide (CGRP; b, blue), IB4 (e, blue) or NF-200 (h, blue). We observed mCherry expression mostly in large diameter, NF-200+ neurons (gi) rather than nociceptive CGRP+ (ac) or IB4+ neurons (df). j Quantification of the transduction rates in CGRP+, IB4+ and NF-200+ neurons demonstrates that AAV5 transduces NF-200+ neurons more efficiently than smaller caliber, nociceptive neurons.
