Figure 1

Comparative growth of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) mutants in the presence of osmotic and oxidative stress. 104 cells from a set of MAPK mutants grown overnight at 37 °C in yeast extract–peptone–dextrose (YPD) were spotted on solid agar plates of YPD medium supplemented or not (YPD) with NaCl, sorbitol, H2O2 or menadione at the indicated concentrations. Plates were incubated at 37 °C and pictures were taken at 24 h (B) or 48 h (A). A diagram of the strains’ locations within the plate is shown. wt: wild type; s: single mutants; d: double mutants; t: triple mutants; q: quadruple mutant; i: quadruple mutants with an ectopically integrated MAPK.
