Effects of a bolus injection of hyperpolarized (A) [1-13C]pyruvate and (B) [1-13C]-L-lactate on the cellular redox and the PDH/PC balance. Rapid conversion of pyruvate to lactate generates NAD+, significantly altering cellular redox. Lactate has much less effect on redox.
