Fig. 5 — Under healthy conditions, CFTR is multi-ubiquitinated and endocytosed. USP10 mediates the deubiquitination of CFTR in the endosome; preventing lysosomal degradation of CFTR and facilitating recycling to the epithelial surface. Under the pathological conditions, Cif toxin stabilizes the inhibitory effect of G3BP1 on USP10 and inhibits the recycling of the CFTR leading to reduced CFTR abundance and chloride secretion.
