The sd+ allele results in different phenotypic traits that can be obtained by type-1c recombination and can only be evident in an eventual homozygosis. Type-1b recombination results in the production of heterozygous tsl sd females, which are resistant to elevated temperatures, thus disrupting the sexing mechanism. Type-1c recombination results in the production of homozygous tsl females but heterozygous for sd, which are sensitive to elevated temperatures and develop faster than the original Vienna 8D53−.
