Examples of macrozooplankton as observed by PELAGIOS during MSM49 in the Cape Verde region. Organisms with peak abundances within the OMZ are (a) Halitrephes sp.⁵⁰, (b) Colobonema sp., (c) Lilyopsis sp. and (d) Thalassocalyce inconstans. (e) Beroe sp. with a bimodal vertical distribution pattern. (f) Praya, a siphonophore with a distribution above the OMZ. (g) Solmissus sp. with a wide vertical distribution and a peak in the OMZ. (h) A decapod crustacean, a group of organisms that showed vertical migration. The distance between the white stripes on the bar at the bottom of the images is 5 cm.
