Higher M2 frequency in the bone marrow (BM) of young donors. The representative gating strategy (A) was used to identify M1 (CD14+CD68+CCR2+) and alternative macrophage (M2) (CD14+CX3CR1+CD163+) cells. The relative frequencies of these macrophage subsets are expressed as a fraction of standard monocytes. Classical macrophage (M1) percentage (b), M2 percentage (c) and M1/M2 ratio (d) in the BM of three donor age groups. The results are expressed as mean ± standard error of the mean (s.e.m.).
