(a) Energy shift variation with sample work function. The analyser work function value of 4.4 eV is found from the fitted line intercept with the work function axis. The work function values for each metal element were obtained from Michaelson⁸⁰, and Hölzl and Schulte⁸¹. The quoted accuracy for the work function values are less than ± 0.1 eV. (b) Energy loss information superimposed upon the experimental DOS signal, at the energies, 3.3, 6.5 and 11–12 eV.
