Lipid rafts are highly organized subdomains of the plasma membrane enriched in cholesterol and glycosphingolipids. Rafts serve as a platform for the recruitment, insertion and interaction of membrane receptors and biomolecules involved in a variety of cellular processes including signal transduction, membrane trafficking and cytoskeletal organization.
