4-HNE mimicked HOG-LDL effects on the RPE barrier model. Quiescent monolayer ARPE-19 cells were exposed to 4-HNE (0–80 μM) with PBS as a vehicle control. Concentration- and time-course responses for TEER and FITC-dextran leakage were measured; no-treatment and 0-h group values served as the baseline, respectively.
