Comparison of the promoter activities of the tested fragments expressed in Miller units. (A) Both fragments, 289 bp (pSU11-289) and 161 bp (pSU11-161), amplified from the intergenic region upstream of mraZ, have a strong promoter activity, containing the promoter of the first 15 genes of the dcw operon PmraBc. (B) The four fragments covering the ddl-ftsA region of the dcw cluster show a promoter activity comparable to the negative control (empty pSU11 vector, red bars), demonstrating the absence of additional promoters. Results are expressed as mean of 3 experiments and the error bars represent the standard deviation.
