Principle of time reversal and phase conjugation. The field emitted from a (point) source is recorded after propagation through a scattering sample. Applying the time-reversed or the phase-conjugated field to the backside of the sample corresponds to a reversal of propagation direction and recovers the shape of the source field at the front.
