The pyramid depicts the entire population of adults with tinnitus. The wide base of the pyramid represents those not particularly bothered by their tinnitus, as the majority of adults with tinnitus fall in this area. Severity increases as you move upwards, with the tip of the pyramid showing the small fraction of individuals who are most severely affected. The five levels of Progressive Tinnitus Management (PTM) are overlaid on the pyramid to reflect the progression from basic to more involved levels of care as needed, based on the severity of the problem with tinnitus.
