Survival curves of K. variicola 8917, ΔpKV8917, and F2R9_TC14 in a healthy mouse model using two different CFUs (A,B). Diabetic mice were infected with 6 × 108CFU (C) of K. variicola 8917 and ΔpKV8917. Non-hmv strain K. variicola F2R9 was inoculated at the higher dose tested (8 × 108) and did not cause death. Significance was calculated with the Mann–Whitney two-tailed U-test.
