Risk estimates of the most common complications of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), by age and hospital admission status. Some of these conditions are composites of more than 1 International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) header code. Pneumonia: defined as J12 (viral pneumonia, not elsewhere classified) or J18 (pneumonia, unspecified organism). Respiratory failure or acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS): defined as J96 (respiratory failure, not elsewhere classified) or J80 (acute respiratory distress syndrome). Acute kidney failure: defined as N17 (acute kidney failure). Systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS), sepsis or septic shock: defined as A41 (other sepsis) or R65 (symptoms and signs specifically associated with systemic inflammation and infection).
