spe-27(it132ts) mutants are sterile at 25°C, but they regain some fertility if they are also homozygous for the spe-47(hc198) mutation. On its own, the hc198 mutation results in a loss of fertility compared to wild type (N2). Conversely, the spe-50(zq26) mutation, which encodes the equivalent amino acid change as hc198, is entirely fertile on its own and does not suppress spe-27(it132ts) sterility. A strain with both hc198 and zq26 has approximately the same fertility as hc198 on its own. Thus, the spe-50(zq26) mutation has no apparent effect on fertility.
