Schematic overview of nanogel formation and preparation of the antifouling and antimicrobial nanogel coating. The synthesis of the nonquaternized nanogel (N-nGel) was done via precipitation polymerization using NIPAM and DMAPMA. N-alkylation of N-nGel’s tertiary amine groups with 1-bromo-dodecane resulted in the quaternized nanogels (Q-nGel). Next, the surface coating on preactivated glass was performed with these nanogels (Q-nGel coating). Finally, the Triclosan-loaded nanogel coating (Q-nGel coating+TCS)) was prepared by incorporating Triclosan into the hydrophobic domains of the intraparticle micelles of the Q-nGel.
