Tissue samples were collected from three explanted CF lungs which were found to be chronically infected by P. aeruginosa. Tobramycin was added to the infected tissue at a final concentration of 16 μg/ml with and without 100 μM PMZ. Colony forming units (CFU) were determined in the PMZ, tobramycin and tobramycin plus PMZ treated samples. Each colored dot represents a different technical replicate of tissue samples (coming from the same lung) whereas the different colors are biological replicates (different lungs). The dashed line indicates the lower limit of detection of the assay. Horizontal bars represent the mean. No significant differences were observed between the tobramycin treated samples and those treated with tobramycin in combination with PMZ (Mann Whitney U test).
