CLLO-smoke exposure alters the expression of the mucins (A) MUC1, (B) MUC4, (C) MUC16, and (D) MUC5B in the apical secretions of smoke-exposed HTBE cells. Exposure to CLLO smoke increases the expression of proteins in the oxidative-stress pathway, namely, (E) PRDX1 (peroxiredoxin-1) and (F) peroxiredoxin-5. Exposure to CLLO smoke also upregulated the levels of the (G) aldehyde dehydrogenase-3A1 and (H) alcohol dehydrogenase-1 enzymes involved in the detoxification process. *Significantly different from air exposure, unless indicated with bracket.
