Extensions coevolve to connect remote functional modules. (A) Graph of the eukaryotic network with the largest distances between interconnected centres of mass are represented in red. The sphere radius are proportional to the values of the eigenvector centrality and are coloured according to their functional status (Supplementary Fig. 11): light blue: mRNA or tRNA functional modules; gray: PTC functional module; violet: tunnel functional module; light pink: subunit brides; yellow: node that bridges two distinct functional modules; red: node that bridges three distinct functional modules.
