(B,C) The concentrations of IL-8 (B) and TNF-α (C) from the co-cultures did not change by adding a PSIM layer, significantly increased by adding LPS to the apical side without mucus, and was significantly attenuated by adding PSIM layer prior to LPS stimulation (*, P < 0.05; n = 3).
