Higher number and activity of orexin-expressing cells in female rats. Immunohistochemical studies revealed that female rats had a higher number of orexin-expressing neurons across the dorsomedial hypothalamus/perifornical (DMH/PF) and lateral hypothalamus (LH) of the hypothalamus compared with males (a).
