Protein levels of GFAP in retinas determined with Western blotting. GFAP expression was significantly higher in retinas obtained from STZ-induced diabetic rats than from nondiabetic controls. The increased GFAP expression was suppressed by rapamycin (P < 0.05, n = 3 each).
