Schematic of the stabilized BCI framework. Neural activity recorded from multiple electrodes, shown here in the form of a spike raster plot, is binned and passed to the manifold-based stabilizer. The stabilizer extracts a stable latent state, which is passed to the decoder to estimate the velocity of a BCI cursor. Whereas the stabilizer dynamically adjusts for neural recording instabilities, the parameters of the decoder are held fixed over time.
