Interactions between key transcription factors and axon guidance molecules for CPN specification. SATB2-associated interactions during prenatal period define TBR1⁺ corticothalamic projection neurons in layer VI, SATB2⁺ CPNs in layer II/III, as well as SATB2⁺ CPNs and CTIP2⁺ subcortical (spinal) projection neurons in layer V. LMO4 further specifies CPNs or subcortical (brainstem) projection neurons from SATB2⁺/CTIP2⁺ populations during the early postnatal period in layer V. Regular arrows and flat-headed arrows indicate positive and negative regulations.
