Cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) expression impairs endothelium-dependent relaxation. Endothelium-dependent relaxation in response to acetylcholine (Ach, panel (A)) or to NO donor sodium nitroprusside (SNP, panel (B)) in isolated aortic rings pre-contracted with phenylephrine. Acetylcholine-induced vessel-relaxation is dependent on nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) activity, since it is abolished in the presence of N(ω)-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME, panel (C)) in aortas of both CETP-transgenic (CETP) and non-transgenic mice (Ntg).
